Subject: Batch FTP
Rob writes:

The DOS is tangential to my real problem. The problem being, 'How do I
automate the receiving of files to my AS/400 from the Internet?' What
the DOS is teaching me is that piping the password is a trick.
Does anyone have some clues as to how to do FTP with the AS/400 in batch?

You build a database file containing the commands that you want to have
ftp execute, or use SEU to build a source file with those commands. (It
doesn't matter whether you use a *SRC or *DATA file.) You override the
default input using OVRDBF (think "pipe") like

OVRDBF FILE(INPUT) TOFILE(MYLIB/MYFTPCMD)

and then start the transfer like

FTP RMTSYS('ftp.apple.com')

and then clear the overrride when the transfer is done.

You can also put the password next to the user ID separated by a space
in the command file like "JOEUSER JOES4PW", which will automate your
last step, with the drawback of having a plaintext password kicking
around in a file.
