Hi Bob,
First of all, don't bother trying to get the IBM 5250 PC card working. The
only way I've seen to get this up and running is a convoluted process in
which you effectively disable any other PC card slots. I've been using a
card from Affinity Systems for any of my laptop clients that need twinax
access. They have a web site at www.affinitysys.com. Also for the wolves
out there: I have no affiliation with Affinity Systems, I'm sismply
recommending a product that has worked well for me in the past...

Subject: Connecting a Thinkpad to the AS/400

So, I'm giving up on trying to successfully connect my IBM Aptiva to the
AS/400 using an IBM 5250 PCI card and Client Access/400 for Windows 95/NT
version 3.1.2.
I'm going to connect using my ThinkPad, and hope that works.
So my question is (Neal are you there?) what can I use to connect to the
AS/400? I only have a twinax adapter on the AS/400. I want have it work. (I
know that's a big request for Client Access, but what else is there.) I
have to do emulation and file transfer (upload and download). That's it.
Should I get a 5250 PCMCIA card, if so who's?
Or, do I need to get an Ethernet adapter on my AS/400 and a 3COM card in my
ThinkPad?
Which one will work more often? And/or is there another option?

P.S. Client Access does not download data to the PC the same way (using
the same translation tables) as PC Support did. PC Support, in my opinion,
did it correctly, CA/400 does it incorrectly. Specifically, if I do a
STRCPYSCN to a database file, then I download that file to the PC using
Client Access, the transfer generates errors. In addition, the data is NOT
the same as it was with the exact same file, downloaded with the good old
PC Support RTOPC.EXE program.
