I am pretty sure that I am answering a question you did not ask.  However,
fwiw, I dial into an AS/400 ASCII controller with a sotware product called
3164 Emulator from PCI. It runs in Win3.1, Win95, and WinNT according to
the book.  I use Win-OS/2 and it works fine.  It prints ok, but I have not
yet tried file transfer.
