It isn't necessary to IPL every week. I was in a 24x7 shop that had 
to schedule IPLs for lull periods. It was not unusual for us to go 6 
or 8 months without an IPL. Even then, we often were only IPLing 
because we got the chance, rather than because we needed to. I know 
that some guys here will advise regular IPLs, but I can tell you from 
first hand experience that it should not be necessary. Necessary 
doesn't mean desirable, though.

IBM does recognize that IPL times are a problem and is doing 
something about it.

There are several different models of 530. If you post your processor 
model #, I can give you the CPW rating of your machine. However, I 
don't know what any of the mainframes are rated at. Perhaps on a 
mainframe list or something?
