We had a similar problem at a site in Canberra, Australia. After a
few weeks investigation (with the use of a protocol analyser) we
traced the problem down to the version of ROUTE.NLM running on the SAA
server. We applied an internal beta test patch of ROUTE.NLM dated
January 1997, and this fixed the problem. No need to restart the
server automatically! The patch is available from Novell. If you
require further assistance, contact me at: dhunter@oi.com.au

Subject: Down Novell 4.1 after IPL

We are running Novell for SAA 4.1. Our network person has recently put on
patches to
Novell that were necessary to enable an application to run. Since then
when the
AS400 does
an IPL (once a week in our shop) people on the network cannot connect
untill the
server is
downed and restarted. This means someone comming in to do this in the
middle of
the night.
Not fun, but the Emergency Room is on the network.

Does anyone know how to automate the Novell server to go down and up at a
certain time and
day?? Or of any new patches for Novell to allow it to reconnect to the 400
without having
to be downed?

Thanks for any acvice you can give.
