I agree completely here. There is some memory allocation overhead with
each printer session, but the ongoing maintenance hassle is even more
problematic, and if people start selecting host print transform, you'll
have a significant impact on memory usage. Since print jobs must be
processed serially anyway, why not set up a PC as a print server. To the
users it will appear as just another AS/400 printer. Put it close by if
possible, because you'll need to reset it in the event of a (rare of
course) lan hiccup. We've tried putting several printers on the same
server machine, but have had problems with Win3.x Client Access if
output is sent to multiple printers on the same server at the same time.
We may be able to resolve this by adding memory. I don't know yet.
