There is a shareware windows batch program called WinBatch that I have seen
used in this situation very effectively.  You should be able to initiate the
xfer which should load the router in the background.  Disconnect may be an
issue but WinBatch does have an ability to close (ie:  terminate) a window.

The new version of Synapse WinAPPC file transfer can be run under C++ or
Visual Basic and will communicate with your program so you can monitor the
status of the file xfer (ie:  success, abort, problems, happiness, etc.).
It also transfers data more than 6 times faster than CA/400 according to
Roger Pence.
