Jesse McKay replies:

The IBM Proprinter XL is a member of that second group of obsolete
machines: those that you do not want, even for free.

This particular machine is cursed with a very expensive ribbon, which if
you are lucky, will last you between 50-100 pages; prints text only, and
is not particularly good at that; doesn't have a twinax connect, so it
ties up a perfectly good terminal's printer port; and it isn't just a
bad midrange computer printer, it also sucks as a PC printer (not that
bad for DOS text output, but who cares.)

The wide carriage seems appealing, but on balance this machine is a
loser. My advice is simply to dump it, but make sure that it is
irreparably broken first, so that Dracula does not take yet another
victim...

Sincerely,

Jesse McKay
