The 436 isn't really obsolete.  A 436 (without an OS/400 license) come
preconfigured as 'SSP dominant' which basically hides the underlying
OS/400 from the user and the machine 'appears' as though it's running
SSP (you do still however need to go to DST and make a backup of the
Licensed Internal Code at least once, preferably twice, or you don't
have a complete backup to reconstruct the system if you lose a disk).
If the user doesn't want to cough up the extra for the OS/400 license
the 436 can still give them better performance, disk capacity, tape
capacity etc.
