I have a similar situation... the reason I am updating the same file that
triggered the update is that I have to duplicate customer information from
the prime company to all the other companies.

JBA software does not allow for customers to span companies, so we have to
duplicate the records.

As we are currently on V3R6 we have to settle for a technique where we are
journalling all the customer files and applying the changes on a period
basis (every 30 minutes or so).
