Mapics/36 G/L Question

I'm still haunted by the past. I have a client still using the MAPICS G/L. I
hope there's still a few MAPICS gurus still working.

Background:
The fiscal year '96 is still open (Dec is End of Year). They want to keep
the year open yet enter J/E's for Jan-Apr '97.

Question:
Can you do this in MAPICS ? If not, is there something like a preliminary
close of year to allow adjusting entries to be made at a later date, and
then perform a final close of the year?
