We use Query/400 as a user tool; yep, they all write their own. Granted,
the problem is that they sometimes forget to include a join link (causing
intermediate files of about a trillion records), but by and large they do a
good job.

However, since they create so MANY of the darned things, we have had to make
a few changes in how they run.

We have 2 AS/400s, and use Mimix to backup our production data base to the
2nd machine.

We offload all query executions to the 2nd machine to keep the production
system free for interactive users. We currently offload about 300-400
queries a day.

As a cleanup routine, we routinely:

        - clear any Query outfiles after 30 days

        - Delete any query outfiles after 90 days (they get re-created
automatically if the query gets re-run)

        - Delete Query definitions unused after 13 months (to allow those
end-of-year queries to survive)
