1 - Getting a list of System i shops in your area.
There are a couple methods of doing that. One is to join your local user
group. Their membership list may not be all inclusive but it's a good way
to network.

Another way is to purchase a list from people who compile such things
(keep the receipt for your taxes). It's been awhile since I've received
one of their spams.

2 - SQL training.
I don't know if an employer would count "I purchased some books and read
through them". How does one check? Show them a well worn book?
However taking an "official" course, or passing a competency test is a
good start, but probably more expensive.
