AS400 Requirements Job PurposeThe Systems Programmer is responsible for the reliability, performance, recoverability and security of corporate iSeries server hardware, operating systems and certain infrastructure applications/solutions (like faxing, etc.). This includes implementation, configuration, coordination, control, maintenance, troubleshooting, security, usage and performance monitoring and the development of specialized procedures relating to the use of the iSeries distributed computing environment within the corporation.
System Programmer position will be one of the senior technical experts in the organization and will be expected to fill a vital role in the success of the IT organization. The Systems Programmer is responsible for the strict adherence and will insure that all implementations meet department compliance policies, internal control procedures and industry best practices.
Accountabilities· Install, configure, administer and maintain distributed iSeries servers and infrastructure applications in support of business processing requirements.
· Responsible for the general operation of the distributed iSeries server environment, including system and database performance, reliability and efficient use of hardware, software and network resources.
· Review daily backup and recovery operations and ensure is successful functioning for the distributed iSeries server environments with established procedures. Additionally, participate in disaster recovery simulations.
· As required, provide consulting to other technology groups· Conduct routine hardware and software audits of servers for compliance with established standards, policies, configuration guidelines and procedures; and develop and maintain a comprehensive hardware and software configuration database/library of all supporting documentation.
· Work with management to define the appropriate standards, policies, procedures, software toolsets and supporting peripherals to facilitate the management, accountability, functionality and security of networked based systems.
· Work with vendors, application developers, database administrators and other technology groups to resolve problems
· Because of the rapid changes that occur in computer industry other duties may be assigned that are not currently defined.
· Provide project management for distributed computing projects.· Manage and administrate iSeries operating systems and their corresponding or associated software.
· Manage communication and connection solutions on iSeries including LAN/WAN connections and file transfers.
· Deploy and maintain security tools/solutions on iSeries. · Supervise server storage space allotments/usage.· Design and implement disaster recovery plan for iSeries operating systems, databases, networks, servers and software applications.
· Provide on-call technical support as needed for system issues· Analyze system or application usage and plan for growth or increases in network capacity.
· Assess need for any system reconfigurations (minor or significant) and execute them if required.
· Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols and standards in support of systems software procurement and development efforts.
· Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for system administration and appropriate use.
· Practice asset management of iSeries hardware, software and related technologies/tools including maintenance of inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
· Provide support for audits for responsible areas.· Monitor and test server software performance and provide statistics and reports.
· Recommend, schedule and perform software improvements, upgrades and /or purchases.
· Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team
Academic, Knowledge and Experience Requirements · Bachelor's degree in computer science/systems is preferred.· Requires minimum of 5 to 7 years of related experience at the senior and mid levels for iSeries environment (hands on)
· Requires minimum of 2 to 4 years of experience in 3-tier application environment preferably involving iSeries as database server
· Good knowledge/understanding of project management tools and methodologies. Minimum of 3 to 5 years of project management experience as project technical lead/specialist.
· iSeries and related certifications are desirable. Competencies · Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills· Adept at reading, writing, and interpreting technical documentation and procedure manuals
