Let's pretend that you are a stay at home mother that is interested in
returning to the workforce. Let's say you've been out of the workforce
for a few years and your skills have gotten a bit rusty. There's one or
two things, or a combination thereof, you can do.

I think there is a website somewhere that will contract people like you to
work from home. Granted, they pay "Indian" wages. However that may
appeal to you more than flipping burgers. And, it gives you a chance to
enhance your resume. I tried to land a parttime job, and they balked at
me only asking for what I made at my day job. I guess if I was to the
point of maybe taking restaurant work to cover a few bills I might have
negotiated down.

As others have suggested, you could take a few classes. Now, many people
try to rejoin the workforce when money get's real tight, and that's about
the hardest time to start taking classes. "I feel your pain." There are
some books available at http:\\store.midrange.com that may help you brush
up on skills. They're also sold at another site that occasionally runs
sales, and even offers some of them used.
