And ain't that the truth?

Back around the early '70s, a local company built a new processing plant out of
cash flow. I.e., they were a very successful company (and are still successful).

They are in paper products, for example grocery bags. Paper grocery bags.

When plastic grocery bags started showing up in local supermarkets, there was
some effort by plant employees to boycott stores that didn't use paper bags.

I don't recall any details of how well it worked out nor if it made any
difference at all. And I didn't particularly care. A big reason I didn't care
was because of how the employee parking lots looked at the plant.

It was early '70s, but does anyone care to guess how many non-American cars
were showing up in the parking lots?

It seemed to me that the plant workers were quick to protect their _own_
positions but did not have the conviction to share support for other industries.

I'm not arguing for or against their position. I'm only saying I had no
sympathy for their boycott effort. (BTW, I've never bought a foreign car and
intend never to buy one. Of course, I know that major parts of cars I've bought
in recent years were manufactured/sub-assembled elsewhere. Haven't figured out
what percentage I should care.)
