Ah, I see.

From the MI description: "The addition operation is performed according to

the rules of algebra."

What exactly do "rules of algebra" mean in this context?
Is it byte1 + byte2?  Or 4bytes + 4bytes?
Perhaps we can emulate the operation in C.
