Hi Dan,

Not sure if this will fit your needs but this is what I do.

I have my backup window down to around 25 minutes. It is all done programmatically.

At 7:30 I send messages to all active users and set flag to lock them out.
5 minutes later I end all active user jobs.
I submit the XA backup to save files.
I submit all primary user libraries to back up to save files. Main IFS folders are also saved to save file.
There are 10 concurrent saves to save files being done.

At about 7:55 the XA backup is done (our libs are already done) I reopen the user signons.

I submit all remaining user libs, non-primary IFS folders to back up to save files.
I also save all config, security, lic keys and systeminfo.

Once all is in save files I spin them to tape.
You could ftp them as well.

Is everyone running in the same environments?

Good luck!!

Subject: [MAPICS-L] Mapics Backup, Continuous Ops, 24/7 processing questions

Hoping Someone can Help me

Our company has the need to have our system available 24/7 for processing with downtime windows being extremely limited. We are
exploring an upgrade into a new box for upgrade processes. With that
in mind we are examining using MIMIX to put the data to another partition which would allow us to backup from there and not interfere with the normal processes.

However this is not a HA option. We are not looking to have two SYSTEMS and be able to switch back and forth, Just the ability to save our data from a second partition.

What is the best way to handle backup without taking the production system to a dedicated mode daily(we have locations in several countries and time zones) and to still be able to keep MAPICS running efficiently(clearing finished batches, etc.)

Your ideas and help is very much appreciated
