Currently, we're on a M50 machine running at OS 5.4. We will probably be moving to 6.1 by year end. I've talked with Dave and implemented what we could at this time.

We found that Memory was an issue in R9 with a couple of early adopters.
We've now been recommending a minimum of 8 GB to even our smaller
customers (20 - 50 users, single site) and this has improved performance
substantially.

Similar to Richard's comment - almost all of our customers have upgraded
their HW to newer boxes (8202's or 8203's) running OS 6.1.

Everyone I know of has taken the opportunity to upgrade their iSeries and
OS when they go to 9.0, so Dave is probably correct in his assessment. I
always get Dave involved up front. The other questions would be number of
users, speed and configuration of network, and how much were the users
using Browser at 7.7?

We moved from 7.7 to R9 in March. (R9.0) Our users are all begging to
go back to the 7.7 due to performance issues. We have already had Dave
at Infor review the stats and have been told it is a system issue (need
more disk arms). We had no system issues at R7.7.

I'm curious how many other XA users seeing this? We are single site, no
external users. We did not upgrade our hardware or OS-5.4.

We recently migrated from R6 to R9 of Mapics. Our users are reporting
performance issues R9. We've used the index advisor to build indexes
that were taking lots of time to build. We've changed some of the
Powerlink defaults on some of the slow applications so it only brought
up a small amount of data rather than the whole file. We're in a Citrix
environment with several VLAN's to support our users. We're also using
Crystal Reports for some reports.

subject: Re: [MAPICS-L] Performance Issues in R9

Hello all,

I can tell you that we ran into the same problem and what our solution turned out to be. About a year ago July 2011 we took one of our biggest divisions from R7.7 to R9 with over 250 Power-Link client users. We were and still are running on a Power 6 550 4-way with 2 processors active, OS V5R4 with 128 MB of RAM and with 29 140 GB drives, also supporting other divisional XA Release environments (about 6 at the time). R7.7 was running just fine with the amount of users with no affects in Power-Link performance. We did multiple testing rounds with R9 and R7.7 on the same box and was confident core functionality was ready in R9. After we migrated to Release 9, within a few days we had a Lynch Mob ready to hang IT. After many attempts to look at indexes (mass built over 2000) and several other processes we were able to identify and clean up, we still were not able to resolve the overall performance issues with R9. Mid-morning became the witching hour when our users would s
tart to grumble and we can see system performance information just hit a wall. Not until we activated a 3rd processor, which is not a cheap solution. When we did this, R9 ran much smoother and our users saw better performance. Since about a year ago, Infor has made many changes to their Link Manager product and many Power-Link client fix patches. I strongly suggest loading a newer version of the client fixes. We have seen some good results with these fixes since last July; however we are still running 3 processors now. I also suggest looking at all hardware you are currently running on to see what can be done to improve it before moving to R9 if you are on an older machine. In the very near future we are going to OS 6.1 which I am told should help with performance, and we are trying to get to a Power 7 server. I also hear that OS 7.1 will really help with performance too, but I am from Missouri the 'Show Me State' - so I will believe it when I see it.

Good Luck with R9 ventures.

We are 50 users--EPDM since 2000 so all users must use PowerLink for some Item functions--25 Engineers don't even know how to use green screen. We do have the other half of users mostly green screen options (MO create, pick, pack and ship, Accounting, COM order entry) ALL the green screen users are the most vocal about the performance issues. Understanding it would have been nice to be able to upgrade our box at the same time, since it was not an option--I do feel that Infor should have advertised better minimum system requirements for R9. I never saw any hardware requirements-only OS ones-and was not advised of any by our affiliate.
I don't doubt Dave is correct--what I wonder is what changed to cause creating pick lists (green screen) to take up to 20 minutes to run? I have been told that this program has not changed. Creating pick lists was immediate at R7.7. We are now waiting up to 20 and 25 sec between screen changes for order entry in COM. These are just a couple of examples....

Network is same as well (1GB Ethernet)--with no additional users.

We completed a migration from R7.8 to R9 in early April and are running a 720 Power 7, 64GB with one processor. OS is R7.1. We have had no performance issues. We upgraded the hardware prior to the migration. I will also add that the deals that IBM and Infor offered and are offering made it a very easy decision to upgrade hardware.
