Kevin Fox's summary is complete as far as Infor is concerned - we offer VPi (aka Advanced Planner) and Thruput to the system i community. VPi is infinite capacity planning, Thruput is finite capacity and offers Capable to Promise functionality. There are other finite scheduling products in the Infor family, but they offer no advantages - so we don't sell them to system i customers.

FCPS is no longer available to new customers.

Both VPi and Thruput are integrated to XA and the system i, but both run on a PC. We aren't aware of any finite capacity solution that runs on the System i, not to say such a thing doesn't exist.

As regards implementation, all finite scheduling products are difficult to implement - having implemented such products from i2 and others, I can say that from personal experience. The benefits are there, but it is a steep hill to climb.

Have you looked at SCM (ThruPut) or AVP from Infor . ThruPut is the
"Cadillac" but also comes w/ high implimentation costs. AVP would be the
other consideration.

I'm trying to solve one long-time client's production scheduling challenge.

Suspect your question was the result of the subject line wording.
Didn't mean for it to read like a come on, an enticement.
It's simply a statement of what I'm looking for.

Probably should have said "I'm looking for ..."

Roy

The answer is:

1. INFOR Finite Capacity Planning and Scheduling is available through Release 6. You will need to get an exception from INFOR through your affiliate to purchase but it is available.
2. INFOR Advanced Planning and Scheduling for XA R6, R7, R7.7 and R7.8. It's been renamed to Visual Planner for iSeries (VPi) at R9.
3. INFOR Thruput for XA R6, R7, R7.7, R7.8 and R9.

INFOR's Supply Chain Management (SCM) Thruput is a constraint based planning system based on the work of E Goldratt (The Goal, the Race), which is the evolutionary replacement for finite capacity planning.

Advanced Planning and Scheduling (AVP) is a subset of Thruput functions which is finite capacity plus. The plus is that it also is Master Scheduling including forecast consumption.

Thruput provides Capability To Promise (CTP) integration with XA such that an order can be entered and planned based on the constraints of the system in real time. To put it simply, as the order is entered all the planning is completed and the promise date is based upon actual load and constraints. It is not a 'standard lead time" quote.
