Pete O.

We're in the middle of this now. Since tons of programs in XA are pre V5, and without observable info, they will not simply save/restore. There's a conversion tool that you need to run to prepare the code for upgrade. Good info on the support site.

To run that tool you need to be at PCM 6638 (for XAR7.7). We're currently in the ptf circle-j*rk to be able to install the PCM to be able to run the conversion tool, to be able to, phew. What a pain! Interestingly, we have 4 other software vendors that we deal with whose code either restores as is or who have provided us with a single update already.

Getting XA to where we can migrate to V6 has become the largest task of the new box project. Sorry for the rant but we're spending a lot of time on something that shouldn't be necessary.

Pete S.

Ed, Thanks for doing this.

when you moved to the power6 box. Did you just do a system save off you old box then restore to the power6? did you do anything special with XA other then get license keys?

thanks pete

Dave,
Thanks for the PTF information; we do not have it on our system yet.  That should help make our system even faster... So far we only use PDM Plus for Power Link. And as I said before; the move of the server to our local campus was a huge performance enhancer --- so slowness is relative for sure!  Plus I like seeing the server sometimes - maybe old school? :-)

Pete,
I would be glad to discuss details offline regarding our transition experience.

PTF SI34884 is the fix for the problem with full opens causing the performance degradation in V6R1.  It is recommended for V6R1, but I don't think it is yet included in the CUM.  See the link below for the details:

Claude, thank you for the quote.

I had not responded to the question because we were away for an extended
weekend.  The facts remain as I stated in my previous response.

We have applied a patch from IBM (not a published PTF) that deals with a
change in the way that changes to library lists behave in V6R1.  In V6R1, a
change to a library list results in a full close/full open of all tables
open in the application.  The patch reverts back to the prior logic that
does not force the full close/open routine to happen.  We did find some
performance improvement to a number of applications.

Since I last wrote, we have added another full processor to the machine
(processor on demand) and we again saw some performance improvement.

However, our Power Link users (IDF) still report somewhat slower response
times than V5R3 and Infor XA version 6.

In fairness, I should also disclose that we never met any history that we
(the business) wanted to purge and archive so our tables are very large.

We did some research on this recently as we were on V5R3. We have both
R6 and R7.7 environments on our boxes.  I posted a similar question as
you have to the group and only got one response - see the link below.
We decided to go with V5R4, because we found very few people making the
leap to V6.1 at that time.  Good luck.

Does the lack of a reply really mean that no one has done this yet?
Please tell me that isn't true.  Anyone on V6 running XA?

We're looking at doing this move (V5R3 box to new V6R1 box) in the
next couple of weeks.  Have all the XA ptfs and the 6638 PCM yet to
apply.  Anyone been thru this and lived to tell about it?  XA at 7.7
