FYI - to a customer with a slow vpn link, I have seen over 8mb download
before displaying the initial sign-on. This is when there is no update to
the client level.

Initial login/signon should be between 30 second and a min. Unless there
has been ptf/pcm/patches applied in which case it may be significant.

The log in is java based and is checking all the code levels of the java
engine as well as the code of xa
... So it does a lot more than the old client architechture

Antonio -

Thanks for the reply. Did the use of Remote Desktop Services reduce the
"sign-on" time delay as well as regular usage response?

My customer has good response AFTER initial sign-on - it's just the
initial sign-on delay that's troubling them.

Hi Brad,

We tried with a a direct connection from the remote location to the
iSeries with Powerlink, but it is very slow.. as you mentioned up to a
minute or more just to show he sign-on, so our solution was to use
"Terminal Services"(renamed Remote Desktop Services) and our users are
happy with the response time.

[MAPICS-L] XA7 Powerlink Initial Sign-on Delays?

I have a customer that experiences long initial sign-on delays when
accessing XA 7.7 Power-Link applications from remote locations -
sometimes
up to a minute or more.

Are others experiencing this? Has anyone come up with any
work-arounds?
