Kevin,

Here's a site that may help you http://www.dir.ca.gov/chswc/ if you were on disability when you were fired.

If you were on disability due to a work-related issue or you were on FMLA you may want to consult an attorney, though California is notorious for its plodding litigation. Especially, if you had an employment contract and you didn't sign a general release. One quick question. Did your former employer ask YOU if you spoke Mandarin before they fired you? If not, then their "reason" doesn't hold water. BTW, whether you speak Mandarin or not, if you were on FMLA, your employer is REQUIRED to bring you back in your old position or an equivalent one (responsibility, benefits, pay, etc.) if your old position has "disappeared".

Good Luck and happy hunting.
Mark

I know that this is not the proper forum and I appologise, but...

I went on temporary disability for some back surgery that I have postponed for 13 years and was summarily let go  by the new Taiwanese owners, they said that they need someone who can speak fluent Mandarin.  This is my new contact information.  If anyone has any leads out there, I would greatly appreciate it...
