Afternoon, I had just downloaded a SH off the internet, and was in the
process of moving it to AFDWEB. For some reason I lost my connection.
Now it is telling me
\QDLS\AFDWEB\SH81853.670 is currently in use. not able to delete or
rename.
I am not able to find the lock.
Does anyone know a command to release this so I can delete it and copy
it into afdweb?
THANKS IN ADVANCE

We went through this exercise almost two years ago as we finally went

and some others we evaluated. I can also give you some insight as to how
MIMIX has been working for us since our installation. Give me a call or

If you were using a controlled warehouse with shelf life control on the
item, the system would make any remaining quantity unavailable at the
expiration of the designated life. There's a lot of overhead to doing this,
though, in maintaining the locations, batch ID and date, etc.

Short of that, I think you could do a better job in MRP than order point.
Safety stock in MRP is placed in the plan one lead time in the future - to
avoid expediting just to have something on the shelf. What this does, in
effect, is "use up" the safety quantity one lead time ahead (in the future)
from the "current date". Every time you move the current date forward (most
companies do this once a week), the "use up" date moves, too, so this is not
exactly what you want. It will, however, recommend replenishment tied to
that future "usage" which is really an assumption that the stuff will no
longer be available beyond actual planned usage.

In addition, MRP gives you more flexibility in lot sizing (not tied to
simple order quantity as in order point) and gives visibility to future
requirements and future planned orders (not just waiting for it to appear on
the list when it's time to order based on usage - MRP looks ahead to planned
usage as well, order point does not).

We want to make sure to reorder it before the product expires or when our

Any thoughts or suggestions on how to do this would be helpful. If MRP is

subject: Re: [MAPICS-L] Creating CO Maint. History

I think if you have integrator (Enterprise integrator is not necessary for
this approach), you can accomplish what you want using user exits and a
secondary object. It sounds like you already have maintenance history turned on.
You would then create a secondary object to customer order with a Boolean
field. When the user set this field to true, you would call your program from
the user exit program (probably the O user exit update database from buffer).
You might even add a second Boolean field to your secondary that would be
updated depending on the successful completion of your program.

As long as you have the maintenance history user exit activated and
compiled, I believe you will be able to see maintenance history on the user modified
Boolean field in your secondary object. This has the added benefit that you
can easily subset based on the condition of the two flags that you set up in
your secondary.

Usual disclaimers follow.. this may not meet your requirements.. advice
offered as is etc. etc.

Subject: [MAPICS-L] Creating CO Maint. History

List:

My current task involves writing an RPG program to update
line item order dates per a certain set of criteria from PowerLink. The
user is to enter the desired date on a specific card, click the 'user'
tab and select my program. No problem here. But, the powers that be want
a record of this program having been run. So, I researched 'Customer
Order Maintenance History' which Mapics automatically creates when the
CO is created, changed, etc.

I found files TRNDTA and TRNSTS that look as if they contain
all the needed data and my idea was to write to these files. Questions:

1) I can't make any sense out of the Task Token, Task Group Token or
Task Parent Token. It looks like the Task Token are a common field
between the two files, but I can't figure out how Mapics decides what
these token numbers are to be.

2) These files take an extra long time to display when I query them - as
if they are linked to other files. Am I in dangerous waters by trying to
update these?

3) Has anyone tried doing something similar or am I sailing uncharted
waters here?

Any help or ideas are appreciated!

How many of you have never changed the AMAPICS user profile password? How
many of you have either COM_Net or EAX or some other web front that prompts

It is amazing to me how many accounts that I have been in where this
password has never been changed...

Just some thoughts...

Tom,

Use the shelf life control option. You will need to have batch/lot control
turned on for the item.

MRP is a better solution for this problem than ROP. However, only if you can
drive demand for the item. My experience as been that many of the chemicals
in a non-process manufacturing environment (i.e. Discreet) are hard to get
right with BOM's. If you can determine the statistical range of usage (i.e.
in a 30 day period we use 2.5 gallons plus or minus .5 gallons. Then you
can also apply safety stock to the item. Thus MRP, with a limited days of
supply, plus safety stock and shelf life expiration as the ultimate safety
check will get you what you want.

Kevin
