Teresa,

We had an application process developed that will do something quite
similar to what you want. When a C/O part gets backordered, we add it to a
Browser-ized BO file that Customer Service/Sales can look at. Then a
program runs nightly to look at all new BO's, checking all components for
that end item to determine component part shortages (we have another
application that creates a consolidated BOM file showing all components all
the way down to the lowest level for all our shippable end items), creates
purchasing requisitions for all items that are short, and does a report
telling the material planner to release an M/O to produce that part,
starting 2 days after the longest purchased lead time due date. It then
puts the mfg due date in the Browser-ized BO file and adds a couple days to
it to provide a targeted ship date.

We were spending WAY too much time doing MRP inquiries and researching to
produce rarely ordered parts - this is to alleviate the problem. Plus, our
Customer Service/Sales department needed something to look at to tell the
customers when the part would ship. This has been VERY well received!

We are also going to add this data to COM_Net so the customers can look at
it themselves without calling or emailing in to ask, "When will my
back-ordered whatever-it-is ship?".....

If you want, I would be willing to share the code for this..... or at a
minimum have my affiliate let you have it. I don't mind sharing stuff I
paid to have written - why re-invent the wheel? I'm sure you would want
it tweaked some anyway. Remember, mine is set to run in batch mode
overnight, not provide an interactive response.

AM [MAPICS-L] Manufacturing Lead times

Please respond to
MAPICS ERP System
Discussion

Is anyone using a program --Or is it possible in Mapics to have Orders
automatically calculate manufacturing due date (ship date) based on
manufacturing lead time?

All of our items have different manufacturing lead times--2 weeks to 14
weeks and can be on the same order. We would like to be able to key the
lead times for the items and have customer service enter the order and
each item gets the ship date calculated based on the lead time.
Currently, they are looking up lead times (that we have stored
elsewhere-not in item balance) and calculating the ship date.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
