We use an OLEDB driver by Hit Software (http://www.hitsw.com) that allows
us to create a linked server on our SQL Server; it works real well to
integrate Mapics data real time with SQL Server data. They also have a
replication software that can use the journal to move data change real
time.

Re: [MAPICS-L] Mapics data conversion

William,

Extracting data from the iSeries to any other database is fairly
straight forward via the ODBC connections. We extract data to Excel, MS
Access and SQL all the time for various reporting tools.

How much data are you trying to extract? Are you trying to pull all of
it for a migration to another ERP system or are you looking for specific
data like top items sold for a specific period? This would determine the
scope and time frame.

If your question of how much is regarding cost of a tool to extract, the
ODBC connections are included in Client Access.

My company is looking for a way to convert our mapics data to SQL or
something... Can it be done, how much and, the time frame are the
questions?
