David,

I am a relative novice here, so I will tread carefully into these deeper
waters. Here at CFW we've been using parts of Mapics and mostly a custom ERP
system. I've been tasked with leading a migration entirely to the XA software.
As such, we don't have any custom code in XA currently, but if we did it would
be the green screen user exits that we modified.

In the process of developing Integrator user exits, I've come to understand
that the green screen user exits do not run when you are using the PowerLink
client. This makes sense because the green screen exits can present the user
with a green screen which is not appropriate when the user is at a java
client(R7).

What this means to me from the point of view of someone who doesn't face this
problem is that any of the logic in existing green screen exits will have to be
ported to the Integrator user exits, and maintained in two places. Either that
or entire functional areas will have to migrate simultaneously away from green
screen and to PowerLink so that the custom code only has to be maintained in
the Integrator user exits.

Like I said, I don't have this problem, but maybe others can expand on the
challenges they've faced in this regard.

Josh

I'm glad to see this being discussed (and the greater the level of
detail, the better). Could someone expand on the impact to "custom
code"? Are you talking about modificatons to MAPICS programs (which we
avoid as much as humanly possible) or are you talking about "bolt-on"
apps?

My company is trying to grasp the benefits of R7 and we just don't see
it (without adding any of the new modules such as PowerLink - which I
still don't understand).

Keep the opinions coming.....
