We have a need for destructive testing which amounts to the same thing as
this. Whether we make 4 on a mfg order or 1, we need to test 1 for each
"lot" or mfg order. If we make 1, the order would be for 2, if we make 4,
the order would be for 5. Just 1 extra no matter how many we make on that
MO. I believe Infor has this on their "to do" list. At least I think I
heard this at the conference. I believe both MRP and thruput (and possibly
AVP) are going to add this enhancement.

At present, our planners are handling this manually when they release the
orders, and we set up a replenish value for the raw material so we order
enough to cover the quantity needed for destructive testing.

As a programmer, I can see handling the mfg order with a trigger program (we
do not change XA source) if the part and all additional info were coded in a
user field or extension file. On the raw material end, the same... add a
percentage to the purchase order to cover an additional quantity for the
clamp (based on historic data) We have not decided to automate any of this
at this time.

Here's an example of what I'm trying to accommodate. I need to saw bat
stock material to make a part that is 14 inches long. In order to do
this, I need 15 inches of raw material in order to give me 1 inch of
material to hold (clamp) the material into the saw. The product
structure calls for 14 inches of raw material because the finished part
is 14 inches long.

How do you "tell" MAPICS to order and issue 15 inches of raw material,
not 14 inches when I need to make one of these parts? And, if the
process is such that multiple parts can be cut from a single piece of
raw material, how do you accommodate that? For example, I need three
of these 14 inch parts and I can saw them at the same time from the same
piece of bar stock. So now, I would need 43 inches of bar stock (1 inch
+ (3 x 14)).
