  Be wary that the Item Balance file maintenance does some unusual things
  during the creation of a new record (from my experience on trying to use a
  trigger).  If I remember correctly, after pressing enter on the first
screen, it immediately writes a record to ITEMBL with a specific status. Then, from that point forward, it uses the CHANGE to update it. You may 
  be "firing" a trigger when you really do not need it.

  I also seem to remember that when you maintain an record, it does
  something similar in that it changes something on the record (maybe the
  status) before you actually change anything so the trigger gets fired
  again...
