We created a program that our users access via group-job menu that shows
them the next customer number they can use. It is not automatic, but
better than what they did before, which was GUESS....

Without modifying mapics code, I don't know how you would do this.

Subject
[MAPICS-L] Automatically Generate Customer Number

I am trying to automate customer number generation when adding a new
customer. Currently our users are maintaining a spreadsheet and are
looking up the next number to be used.

I have found a way to do it through User Exit program UMVCUM5R...sort
of. I have to modify one parm in AMVA3PVR so that the new customer
number will pass all the way back through to the display of the customer
input screen. My director would like to find a way to do this without
having to modify a MAPICS program otherwise there is really no use in
using the User Exit program to begin with.

Has anyone created an auto-generate capability without changing main
programs? I saw one post make a brief reference to using a data area to
store the numbers, but they did not say where in the program they are
accessing this number when a user chooses to Add a New Customer.

Any help/information would be appreciated.

Thank you.
