I do not know the magstar 3570 by heart, but I imagine you can initialize
the second tape using a command (and not putting it in slot 1 first).  Hence
you could use the pre backup command (that has been in use since around XA
Release 2 I believe)
I believe the pre backup command comes before the test on the tape label.
