Beautifully said, Joan.

I too have used MAPICS since S/34 in 1979 and MAPICS Support is the best
available. I, too find probably 90% of my answers through E:Info.

Dennis,

I'm confused by your comment "This group... will not be allowed to be part
of the users conference..." I am presenting a customer's sessions; I know
Dale G. is also; and probably several others. I have been to the last three
UCs and met many group members. Just because the "MAPICS ERP System
Discussion" list doesn't have an organized presence or presentation doesn't
mean we're not there!

You definitely have a chip on your shoulder about IBM and MAPICS - as
someone else said, maybe it is time for a career change for you. I know I
had to do some serious soul-searching several years ago after some
particularly bad career choices. I finally realized that, yes the world is
full of idiots and no, I can't do anything to change them, so I had to
change myself and my attitude.

As someone else pointed out, MAPICS is not an IBM product any longer, and if
you are looking to IBM for support and problem resolution, you ain't a-gonna
git it!

"Imagine if Microsoft delivered Office2000 and it has as many problems as
EPDM release after 2
years." Excuse me - which version of Office 2000 are YOU referring to? MS is
notorious for putting out buggy software and letting the customers provide
the post-Beta testing while trying to run their businesses with Office.
Office 2000 is finally a descent versious of Office 95, which was
horrendous. Just because MS markets each release as a "new" product doesn't
change the fact that it takes them years to get it right! It took until Word
2000 to have almost all the functionality that WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS had!
(Enough MS bashing for a Monday morning...)

You describe yourself as a "lone wolf" - I would add the phrase "burned
out" to that description. Good luck - life is too short to be as miserable
as you have indicated you are with MAPICS.

Ok, let us keep this going.

The one reason this user group exist is because we do not get what we need
from IBM in a timely manner. This group, I believe will not be allowed to be

part of the users conference because we pose a competitive threat. Correct
me if that rumor is wrong.

I have 22+ years of MAPICS from the 34 -36-38--AS400-DB-XA. Companies of 25
people to re-implementing 7 plants in PR for GE.
I have been through GMD, MARCAM and this newest way of marketing the
products.

MAPICS is a great product. It even was before we came up with the ERP buzz
word.

When this group becomes a group of MAPICS sycophants rather than a place to
post our problems we need resolved because it is easier than IBM sales and
support, I will admit that IBM sales and support delivery products and
software that does not require PTF's out of the box. Imagine if Microsoft
delivered Office2000 and it has as many problems as EPDM release after 2
years.

EPDM is a great example of early product release with sales in mind, not out

of the box functionality without many problems.

So Gentleman, the beat goes on. How many of us have purchased a car from a
salesman and have a problem. The salesman is tough to reach and refers you
to
service. Service the notifies you that the problem is not cover under your
purchase agreement. You need to purchase this and that if you want what you
need and thought you had originally purchased. GM or IBM, you choose.

I know that of the 7000 or so MAPICS users, I am a lone wolf.

Gooood Evvvvening
