Regarding the reason for this group's existence:

It exists because a few years ago several of us thought that an independent,
on-line, free user group for MAPICS users would be of value to some of those
users. David Gibbs of Midrange DOT Com very graciously offered us the
services of his mailing list server, we did a bit of advertising around the
'net, and here we are. Yes, we discuss problems with MAPICS and with IBM
here at times. We also exchange ideas about using the products, finding
information about the products, and even the future of the products.
Sometimes we bash MAPICS and/or IBM - since we're independent, we can do
that as long as it's constructive and civil. However, that's not the main
purpose of this list.

A number of people appear to find this forum valuable. Given the number of
subscribers with addresses ending in "@mapics.com", I'd say that MAPICS,
Inc. sees some value in it. I believe that will continue, given the ongoing
growth in our subscriber list, which is totally due to word of mouth. I
hope that we can continue to be a positive influence among MAPICS users -
and that we don't all become sycophants.
