Jeff,
Not sure if this is helpful but the first thing I would need to know is what
is meant by "change" item numbers? Are they trying to take one companies
set of numbers and change them to the other companies set of numbers or do
they simply need to reference one set to the other. In either of these
situations they would need to begin by building a cross-reference between
the two sets of numbers either to be used in a later conversion of the items
numbers or as a continual reference (maybe loaded via the item description).

The other significant question would be whether they were running EPDM vs.
PDM. It may be that each of the companies involved in the merger are on
something different. If you can get to the CAS Inquiry screen you can
validate what applications are loaded. PDM files are ITEMASA, ITEMASB and
ITEMASC. EPDM files are ITMRVA, ITMRVB and ITMRVC.

Sounds like you are working with some folks who are simply concerned about
the merger and possibly their positions.

I have plenty of R6 documentation but I'm on the East coast so you would
probably be better off if you could find some closer.
Hope this helps!
Lisa

Subject: HELP - documentation and bizarre client requirement(s)

They've got a system with (this is what they've volunteered so far) 867K
item masters and are at 76% disk utilization (don't, yet, have any info on
overall machine capacity, etc.).

Requirement is to change item numbers on somewhere between 20K and 40K of
the item numbers as a result of a merger consolidation.

Can ANYONE proffer documentation resources, ideas, thoughts, ideas,
suggestions (I _have_ been reading archives -- which only validate my
concerns!) -- esp., need CURRENT Mapics logic documentation -- client is
either (1) totally out of it; (2) deliberately hiding information; (3)
totally clueless; (4) you name it!?! ;*)

I have yet to get them to even tell me the installed modules and they
won't -yet- provide any access to the system (it's in IL, I 'm in CA).
Would REALLY like to be able to walk in (9 hours or so from now) -the CA
location- with at least SOME understanding of what's changed / where to
look on the IL machine -- esp., since the changes of the past 2-3 years.
