Hmmm. That's an interesting concept, Joan. I do that personally for my
printouts, but for the most part, my users can't view print queues
(security). I may have to consider that for some people, however. Some of
them CAN view print queues, at least, their own.

Konrad, I upgraded from a 720 with 420 CPW to a single processor 270 with
1050 CPW, and my users got worried that their jobs weren't running - they
finished so fast. If I had a dual processor 270 - I don't know what we'd
do.... BTW, 1 hour cycle for MPSP, MRP, and post-MRP reports - was 2.5
hours on the 720, 4 hours on the 500, and so on.

The only pther problem was when I unpacked the 270, my boss was in the
computer room and he said "Why do we have this big IT department when that
little thing runs the whole plant?". I have PC servers bigger than the
270....... and I don't even want to talk about the Liebert air
conditioner.....

Konrad,

Yeh, yeh, yeh - rub it in, why don't cha! BTW, we have all our printer
output go to a queue with no printer attached. My users only print what is
needed (saves a few zill-i-on trees that way!).

        Jealously, Joan

Just to rub it in a bit since we upgraded to our dual processor 270 it is
tough to ever find a job in a queue to move and we rarely ever get a
conflict. Trying to trap printer output is a real challenge.

To make sure the system is still running and to have something to watch we
kick off a few MRP runs. j/k of course :)

Seriously if you do have any long running reports that you want to run
outside the MAPICS job control system find the CL that runs the job and
strip out the AMZ activity to the JOBACT file. Then you can run them
anywhere you want. Otherwise be very careful. Note that the Synon apps
pretty much have their own control system so they are less sensitive.

Regards

Konrad
