RE: EPDM security

I was working recently with Curt Mack of MAPICS support on field level
security, and, Hans, I think sadly you are correct. Security for ALL the
cost fields (and the inventory beginning balance!) are controlled by one
security area in CAS, and it is an all-or-nothing proposition - either a
user can maintain ALL the fields or NONE of the fields.

We have "quasi" gotten around the problem by setting up a separate view for
those who are allowed to create the ITEMBL record in EPDM, and then taken
the fields out of the "general" view that everyone uses, but that approach
has NO security behind it... I'm not happy with that approach or MAPICS'
response to the issue so far. (BTW, the issue that I am fighting is that
when you create an Item Balance record in EPDM, you can enter a beginning
balance for a controlled warehouse, even though no corresponding SLQNTY
record is created. You end up with inventory in a controlled warehouse with
no location, and no way to fix it except to DFU the ITEMBL file!)(Well, OK,
I could write an RPG program to blow through SLQNTY and update the on-hand
in ITEMBL, but why should I have to fix after the fact something caused by a
fundamental programming flaw?)

And, BTW, I do have Integrator - doesn't fix the problem (I can't make the
Beginning Balance field display only - I've tried).

That is correct ofcourse.
But as far as i can see there is no difference between cost fields for
security. The same user who can maintain current cost shouldn't be abble to
maintain standard cost and that is my problem. If was looking for seperate
security between current and standard cost.
