Michael,

Actually, the "roundtable" session(s) at the Help Desk conference was
sponsored by a company after the main sessions but before normal
dinnertimes in a "ballroom". (Why do they still call them that? Who has
formal balls anymore?) It was very well attended. However, it was not a
marketing session for a specific product. Sort of a hospitality suite
meeting, but not angled at a specific product.

ALL:

We're talking about possibly sponsoring such forums at the conference.
MAPICS is also limiting the Expo booth participants to only those who have
a contract with mapics for their products (we don't have products, but
still may be excluded). If we're not in the Expo, we'll have a presence
in the conference somehow. Perhaps sponsoring Open Discussion Forums
would be a good idea? I'd appreciate feedback from people about that
idea, instead of a hospitality suite. Cost of admission would be simply
some info for our database and maybe some chatting with our sales person.
Would that help everyone?

I hope they keep as many customer sessions as possible - I frequently
learn
a LOT off of them. I really like the Customer Success stories - I get a
lot of ideas.

Hmmmm, never chewed on a Christmas tree..... but it would probably taste
better.

Pete -

I too hope I'm not one of the sessions to be cut, because if I am, I doubt
I'll get to come! Profit margins are too tight to pay the conference fee
as
well as hotel and air fare (although I'm seriously considering driving
from
St. Louis - anyone else care to carpool?)

'fraid I don't do "zhouin 'n tshonics" either - too much like chewing on a

subject: Part numbers for components

I'm looking for ideas on how to assign part numbers for components. We
have
a model for finished goods so that they contain logic and commonality but
the piece parts have gotten out of hand. Until recently, our cad package
assigned the next number and that is what we used. We now have new CAD
package-you can assign your own number and new Engineering Mgr who wants
to
do it the way his previous company did it. Previous company was HUGE-we
are
really small and don't have the overhead to do the way he wants.

Can you guys give me ideas on how you all assign part numbers.

We manufacture test equipment-electronic components. Some parts are
painted, screened, or plated after they come in from outside.

Any and all ideas will be appreciated.

Thanks!

Teresa Biby

Hi,

One way is to have the top level ordered item as the base number and
append
two or more characters denoting each activity/routing + subcomponent
itnbr.
At the end you will see a flow coming together for the top level item.

Thanks
Devendran
