Hi Doug,

Sorry about the late reply. I've been on vacation but I still wanted to
contribute to this thread.

Laser checks are great for eliminating preprinted stock checks. With the
proper solution you can add MICR, graphic logos, signatures, and reformat
your spooled output. The logos and signatures can be linked to particular
bank accounts or font cartridges and secured with FONT cartridge removal or
key lock printer. In addition to this physical security, Positive Pay can be
an added measure of bank reconciliation.

You can implement laser check printing with a multi-bin printer. Multi bin
printing in a good way to cut down on the use of the check stock for
printing lengthy ledgers. If overflow occurs in can be monitored and the
extra ledger pages can be printed on plain white paper.

Security concerns usually lead companies to the use of a single printer, or
two with one as a backup, in a location that can be monitored and locked.

A majority of laser printer vendors have models that can be converted to
MICR with the use of a kit. HP, IBM, Lexmark are just a few.

Here's some other questions you'll want to ask when shopping for a laser
check solution:

-- Security of the stock -- Does it prevent copying, modification, etc.?

-- MICRO Readability -- What is the overall percentage of successful reads
from the bank with the hardware software combination?

-- Are there per check charges for the printer or software?

-- Can manual checks, blank checks, and reprints be accomplished easily?

The company I work for, Quadrant Software, offers a solution that is a
strong performer in this area - Formtastic Checks. You can get all the info
