Very well said! And your comments also apply to those who are upgrading
from older versions of Mapics, especially going from green screen to client
and/or web based applications.

Andrea,

I don't have a solution, but I do have a comment, having just atteneded
a seminar yesterday where one line by a speaker particularly struck me.
Paraphrasing what he said - "You don't install a new software package in
order to duplicate old methods and procedures." I would go on to say
that in your case, you've switched from BPCS to MAPICS and some people
in customer service want the ERP system to work "just the way it always
has." I suspect that a management committee selected MAPICS and got
agreement by all departments that that was the package of choice. The
new package is going to be DIFFERENT. It will do some things better
than the old package and some things not as well. It will continue to
improve, which may not be true of the old package. I think that your
customer service manager is dodging the issue of taking responsibility
for putting effective procedures in place in his/her department and
trying to foist responsibility in this instance off onto the package
(and onto your back). I'll bet that that same manager will not request
that a piece of MAPICS that works better than the old package will not
need to be made to work "just the way it always has."

You needn't take responsibility for someone else's failure to manage.

Regards.
