Note: This reply was originally bounced by the list server because it was
more than 40,000 bytes long, mostly due to the inclusion of an image in the
message. I know a picture is worth a thousand words, but because included
images and attachments can't be handled properly in digest mode our server
is set up to bounce obviously overlength messages which include them. I
would appreciate it if all participants in this list would keep this in mind
in the future. Thank you!

Bryan,

I created a directory 'mapicsbooks' on IFS and made it shared with Read
access.
Then I installed the books on my PC
and copied the pdf files and index to the IFS. I kept a sub-directory FILES
for
all the pdf files.
(Embedded image moved to file: pic22735.pcx)

Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 is installed on each person's PC . The PC user is
given instructions to MAP the drive to 'mapicsbooks' using Windows Explorer.
Then open Acrobat Reader and select the 'mapicsbooks' directory and open
MAPICSXA.PDF.

It is not as fast as having it installed locally, but slow is better than
none.
So far our people are happy with it.

Gail,

We are also on 5.5 and I would like to put our manuals on the IFS, but my
only experience with IFS is using it for PTF's. Can you tell me how to get
the manuals on the IFS or point me to some reference manuals? Also, how do
your users access the manuals once they are in the IFS?

Thanks in advance.

I rate them Very Good.
I usually find alot of what I need. If not, I do search support ....great
improvements on the web for finding info.
I feel compared to some other documentation I have seen that MAPICS is
superior.
Evolved improvements....we are at 5.5 and these manuals are much better
than the
earlier versions.
I still would like to see logic manuals as part of the mapics books rather
than
thru CAS.
We do keep the manuals on-line (installed on IFS) for access by all users.
 That
has been very helpful. The old hard copy books and earlier CD's were only
available if the user went to the Library.

Overall, MAPICS has done a lot of work on these and like the balance of
MAPICS,
they are continually improving. Just my opinion.

Subject: Your Views on the Mapics Manuals?

Hi Mapics ML:

I was at a meeting this morning at work and one of our bookkeepers who runs
the
A/P Mapics module made the comment, "I don't understand anything when I
look in
a Mapics manual."

Can you give me your opinion of the Mapics manuals in terms of:

1. How do you rate their general readability and understandability?

2. Do they usually meet your needs when you research a topic in them?

3. How do they compare to manuals of other ERP programs you may seen in
your
travels?

4. Have the Mapics manuals improved as they evolved thru the enhancements
of the
program over the years?

5. What other comments would you like to share with the Mapics ML about
your
experiences using the Mapics manuals?

I hope that many of the Mapics ML members will take the time from their
busy
schedules to share their experiences on this topic.

Regards.......
