We've found that with careful control of source objects separate from
vanilla source, we have little problems in the upgrade process. The process
to go from DB Mod 4 to XAR3 took about 2 man years to complete. There was a
nightmare in locating all of the source for modified and home grown
applications. In that process we cleaned house and it took very little time
to prepare the upgrade to XAR5 (Approximately 3 weeks).

The problem with maintenance and PCM's is made easier with the organization
of modifications. Although we do not apply every PTF that is issued. We do
apply those that directly affect the functions we are using.

To remain with vanilla MAPICS, IMHO, would be a huge business mistake.
