I wonder is Ubuntu is having some Java issues with 9.10.

With RPG NG if I try to click 'Okay' to adding a library it does
nothing. I have to hover over it and press enter. With Eclipse, if I
click 'Cancel' on certain dialog boxes, it closes the application.

Can't you just download the jdk for java1.6 from Sun? At
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp, if you select to the
second section, you can download JDK 6 for Linux (or Linux64). Runs
Eclipse just fine.
The best way in my opinion to run Sun Java under Ubuntu is to run "sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jdk" as this gives you automatic updates. This has worked very well for me under 9.04.

The default Java is (as far as I remember) based on OpenJDK which still has some quirks.
