I've never understood the '/opt' directory ... the three distros I've <br>
worked with so far (Fedora/Redhat, Slackware {not in a while}, and <br>
Ubunut) don't use it directly.<br>

It's only used by some 3rd party packages that have their own installer.<br>

Personally, I would prefer that kind of stuff get installed in <br>
/usr/local instead of /opt.<br>
