And you'll have even less problems if you buy your PC from a Linux PC vendor. I got a nice setup: DVD-RW, 250 Gb HD, i7-920 (2.66 Ghz), 3Gb memory and a nice case for a hair under $1000 US (1 rear eSATA, 6 rear USBs, 2 front USBs, rear & front audio jacks). Came with Ubuntu installed. I prefer Fedora and loaded it with __NO__ problems.

Subject: Re: [LinuxDesktop4i] .bin file and other annoyances

I'm pretty new to Linux myself. I have an Ubuntu desktop at home that I just upgraded to 9.10, and since I was running NVIDIA proprietary drivers it broke. I spent three days figuring out how to correct the problem. During this same time I was still, after three WEEKS, trying to fix my Windows XP pc that locks up within a few minutes to a few hours after booting.

The Ubuntu pc is up and running. The Windows XP pc is still locking up. I have over 20 years in IT and I still have more trouble with Windows than I do with Linux. I started playing around with Linux about a year ago. The conclusion seems obvious to me.
