hmm.. forget about the character translation problem.. it was a bad WSCST
file i was using. i apologize for my error :-)
I will prepare a raw dump as suggested of a file that will get splitted.
Thanks!
Ciao :-)
Alberto.

Hi again, i am still working on this "problem" and i want to share my
thoughts with you all.

At the start i've thought it was a "Iseries" problem caused by some
strange data sent from the Iseries to the lp5250d, but the same "bad"
spool file sent to another Iseries system and printed via lp5250d has the
same problem.
I suspect that it could be a "codepage" problem.
Let me explain better : i use lp5250d under my Ubuntu 9.04 box and the
LANG variable is set to it_IT.UTF8 .
I've noticed by example that italian specific chars like òàùìè that are
shown on the spool file will get badly translated on UTF8 with a graphic
char or something like this on the output pcl file.
Now imagine if a character like this apppears on a page and the emulator
"thinks" it's a EOF char , it probably could close the file.
Couln't this could happen also with other chars ?
I am still trying to find the right way for make you reproduce the
problem, so i'll let you know asap !! :-)
Thanks for your time!
Ciao.
Alberto.

Can you tell us how to reproduce this problem? You don't have to debug
lp5250d for us -- just tell us how we can create the same problem on our
machines.

Hi James , thanks for your answer!
I'm sorry for the mistake, probably caused by my very BAD english and
no, i
don't want that the split happens because i sometimes do some kind of
"postprocessing" of the output file and i really need to have only one
file.
Means one spool file with one output file, nothing more and nothing
less :-)

Looking at the spool file from the AS/400 side, dumping it with CPYSPLF
*FCFC and *PRTCTL it seems there isn't nothing special at the page
where
the file get splitted.
Then i've generated a output file using Iseries Access for Windows
using the
same configuration of lp5250d, and at the page where the split happens
there
is no trace of the ÿ character, and the file is complete.

If i concatenate the two files i get when the problem happens, the
output
pcl file is absolutely valid and usable.
So the lp5250d seems that sometimes receives some unpredictable char
from
the AS/400 and closes the output file before the writer has completed
the
job, then the writer still sends the remaining pages and the emulator
creates a new file.
This is what i've noticed, let me know if you need more informations
and
tests.
Thanks a lot!
Ciao.
Alberto.
