This shouldn't really be necessary if your distribution has xterm
generating the same keys in application mode as the terminfo
definition for xterm has.

For example, if your xterm generates ^H when you press BackSpace, but
terminfo says kbs=\177, one of them is wrong.  You should file a bug,
unless you're using Debian, when you should have a good read of all
the other bug reports like this against "xterm".
