Options changed at some version.  Try -underscores or +underscores instead
of -u.

There were a lot of problems with numeric fields in earlier versions.
(Still are a few problems.)  Try a newer version, perhaps.

You said you are running from the console.  Did you run loadkeys to get
the extra keys?  (It's been too long since I used the console version to
remember the syntax, but I'm sure someone else can answer that.)  I'm
trapped in Windows right now, so I can't check mine.
