The file "XTerm" _is_ the keyboard map when you're running in an XTerm.
The other files (us5250.map & uk5250.map) are for console mode.

For example, the line:
        Shift <Key>F1: string("\033[25~") \n\

Tells xterm to send the string "<ESC>[25" when you hold down shift and
press the F1 key. The terminfo or termcap file for xterm-5250 that
should've been installed by the "make install" sees this string and
reports to xt5250 (via ncurses) that the F13 key was pressed.

There are several reasons why xt5250 might end immediately... basically,
anything that causes an error to occur will do that.

Perhaps the most common reason is that xterm-5250 didn't get put into your
terminfo database. There was a problem at one point where previous
terminfo entries got in the way of newer ones. Upgrading to 0.15.8
should solve that problem, if thats the case.

I think you said you're running SuSE Linux. Perhaps someone on the list
who is running this version has some tips? I just reinstalled 0.15.6 on
my RedHat machine, and "xt5250 -y IBM-3477-FC as400" worked for me, so
I'm not sure what else might be wrong...

Hopefully one of the other users on this list has some better suggestions
for you! :)

Thanks,

Scott
