Hmm, make sure you're using 0.15.7 - we ended up fixing three or four 
things, and error messages while connecting the printer was one of them.
Try using the source and not the tarball, since the 0.15.7 rpms seem to
have some weird version problem (?? - see Gomez's post for more info).

lpd/lpr don't affect the print session, the print session is barely aware
of them, even.   I'm not sure if it's a bug or a feature, but there's no
way to tell the AS/400 the actual printer or printer queue status.
