Kristen,

What do you mean by an Integration machine?
Would this be an existing iSeries LPAR, or possibly a different LPAR, and why?
Any reasons not to simply store the java source in a folder on the IFS?

Paul

I am an independent consultant Senior Java programmer analyst who specializes in iSeries integration.

My answers are below.

1) What coding tool do most use? Either Eclipse or Rational Application Developer on a PC.
2) Can RDI be used, if so which version/flavor? I don't use RDI but some may, importing the Java tools.
3) Where does one store their Java source? Java source should be stored on the PC that you were developing on. Once you start testing you will copy your Java source along with other developer's source depending on how many developers are are into an integration machine. Often there will be a check in and check out using github or SVN which is integrated with the development environment.
4) Any special tools used for Java deployment? Personally I don't use any special tools, but it depends on what you are deploying and to where. If it's a web application then you would make a WAR file using a tool within the development environment. For cron jobs you would either create a jar file or sometimes I copy the whole compiled class directory on to the target machine.
